Riverside re-development comprising office buildings and a luxury hotel; two separate systems based on groundwater wells, each supplying heat and cold to several buildings

Project details:

  • open-loop system with 2 extraction and 2 injection wells ca 25 m deep (2004)
  • open-loop system with 3 extraction and 3 injection wells 22-28 m deep and of large diameter (2009)
  • ca 1000 kW heating and cooling capacity
  • shallow aquifer in riverbed gravel, numerical simulation required to optimize well positions and operation strategy and to ensure that neighbouring groundwater wells are not affected
  • >850,000 m² in total

Picture above: View of the development area from the river; the first system from 2004 serves the buildings to the right with the preserved old water tower, the new system from 2009 the hotel in the centre left and the buildings farther left, the building centre right is not connected to the geothermal system
